Pep Guardiola has played down suggestions he will leave Bayern Munich when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The former Barcelona manager has entered the final year of his current deal and reports have emerged suggesting the Spaniard will replace Manuel Pellegrini as Manchester City manager in 12 months time.
Former Bayern captain Stefan Effenberg told Sky Deutschland he was “pretty” certain” Guardiola’s contract would not be renewed, but the 44-year-old insists nothing has been decided.
“This is the first and the last time that I will talk about it,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “I am coach of Bayern. I am grateful to be here. I have not yet decided what the best thing for the club is, but I am doing my best and I will do my best.
“I have not decided yet. Maybe Effenberg, who was a great legend for Bayern, knows more about it than me, maybe I should give him a call. I’ve not received an offer from any other club in the world. I’m very happy here.
“When the moment comes that I do make up my mind, then I will inform [chairman] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, [former president] Uli Hoeness and [director of sport] Matthias Sammer. I’ve read lots of things lately, but all I care about is the good of this club. I will never become a burden for Bayern.”
Despite winning the Bundesliga in each of his two years in charge of Bayern, Guardiola is still striving for the Champions League trophy, which would be his third and Bayern’s sixth.
Under Guardiola, no team across Europe’s top 5 leagues averaged more possession than Bayern last season (70.2%).
