Atletico looking to increase Griezmann release clause

Atletico Madrid are looking to ward off interest for star striker Antoine Griezmann by increasing his release clause to €100m (£75.8m), reports AS.

Griezmann has previously been linked with a move to Chelsea and the France international is enjoying another fine season for Diego Simeone’s men this time around.

The former Real Sociedad forward’s current deal still has five years left to run at the Vicente Calderon, and while Atletico are happy for Griezmann to see out the remainder of that deal, they do intend to increase his current release clause of £60m and his salary before the European Championships in the summer.

The 24-year-old reportedly has a gentlemen’s agreement with the club whereby he cannot listen to offers from other clubs for the next two years.

Griezmann has seemingly picked up where he left off last season and is Atletico’s top goalscorer in La Liga by a distance (10).
