Tottenham look to AC Milan for Harry Kane backup

Tottenham are considering a £30m move for AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone as backup to star forward Harry Kane, reports the Daily Star on Sunday.

Spurs have struggled in their attempts to secure a competitive forward for Kane in the past, with Vincent Janssen struggling to impose himself in north London and Fernando Llorente past his best.

However, with Spurs’ Champions League future hanging in the balance after Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Bournemouth, head coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen this summer to avoid a repeat of their stuttering end to the season.

Kane has spent lengthy periods on the sidelines in the last two campaigns due to ankle issues and while Son Heung-Mun has impressed when called upon, Pochettino is eager to land a striker happy to play as a backup in north London.

21-year-old Cutrone has scored nine times for AC Milan this season, despite playing second fiddle to Gonzalo Higuain prior to his move to Chelsea and January arrival Krzysztof Piatek, though has scored just twice in 2019, those coming in a 2-0 Coppa Italia win at Sampdoria.

Cutrone impressed in the Europa League this season, scoring four goals in five appearances, more than any other AC Milan player, to return a WhoScored rating of 7.22.
