Karim Benzema has revealed he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid and wants to end his career with the European Champions.
The former Lyon striker will not represent France at the Euros in the summer after being dropped by head coach Didier Deschamps for off-field problems and could find his place in Madrid up for grabs amid reports linking Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski to the club.
Madrid have reportedly already reached a pre-contract agreement with the Bayern star and his arrival would surely leave Benzema’s future at the club in doubt.
However, Benzema isn’t thinking of anything but his future at Madrid and admits he wants to retire at the 11-time European champions.
“Of course, but there is still a lot left before I retire,” Benzema told Marca, via Sky Sports. “I always say that I am at the best club in the world, with that stadium, the fans, with a very demanding level of play, with the best players in the world.
“Far away from here, I do not know where I would go, truthfully. I do not see myself leaving to go somewhere else. This is the top. There are other clubs that provide a lot of money to play with then, but I do not like that. I like football and here is the best.”
Of players to have scored at least five goals in Europe’s top five leagues last season, only four players required fewer minutes per goal than Benzema (83 mins).
