Arsenal are on the verge of making their first signing of the summer after lodging a €50m (£40m) bid for Gladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to German newspaper Rheinische Post, via ESPN.
Xhaka, 23, has been extensively linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the season and Arsene Wenger has already had one offer rebuffed for the Switzerland international.
An initial approach for £30m was rejected from Gladbach but Arsenal have returned to meet the Bundesliga side’s asking price signalling a huge sign of intent from Wenger following their disappointing campaign this season.
Gladbach are now looking to bring in a replacement for their star midfielder before sanctioning the deal.
No player is averaging more accurate long balls per game in the Bundesliga than Xhaka this season (7.4).
