Toure calls time on international career

 

Yaya Toure has announced he has retired from international football with immediate effect.

 

The 33-year-old, who has been cast aside by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City this season, has opted against representing his national team at the African Cup of Nations at the start of 2017.

 

Toure was capped 102 times by the Ivory Coast and captained them to glory in the African Cup of Nations 2015 but has penned an emotional goodbye letter to his country; in which his time with Ivory Coast an honour.

The veteran midfielder’s only competitive outing came in City’s Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucuresti last month and Guardiola has since announced he will not play for the club again until his agent, Dimitri Seluk, apologises for comments made about the club.
