Borussia Dortmund tell star man to quit talking about his future
Borussia Dortmund chiefs have told star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stop talking to the press about his future and focus on firing the club back up the title.
Aubameyang, 27, has been heavily linked with a big money move away from Dortmund in the last two campaign and has hinted he could leave the Bundesliga outfit at the end of the season on more than one occasion this season.
The Gabon international has been in sublime goalscoring form this season and is expected to receive big interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid in the summer but Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has told the striker to only focus on this season.
“I recommend to him to give less interviews about the summer,” Zorc told Reviersport, via The Daily Mail. “We chatted briefly, and I recommended to him to give less interviews about the summer and rather focus on our chase of a Champions League spot on the pitch.
“He understood it. We have a very, very good relationship, but we need to set an example for the inside and the public that our focus now is on the sporting side.”
Aubameyang still has three-and-a-half-years remaining on his existing deal with Dortmund and Thomas Tuchel’s side would ideally like to keep the striker at the club throughout that period as they look to close the gap on Bayern Munich.
Despite missing the start of the year due to the Africa Cup of Nations, Aubameyang has still scored two more goals than any other player in the Bundesliga (16).
