MLS starlet set for Premier League switch

New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga is set to join an undisclosed Premier League team in the next 24 hours, according to ESPN.

Miazga, 20, has less than 12 months left to run on his current deal with the Red Bulls and is looking towards the next chapter in his career, leaving Jesse Marsch’s side with little choice but to sell him now rather than let him go for free at the end of the 2016 MLS season.

The USA international’s performances in breakout campaign were seemingly impressive enough to capture the attention of an unnamed Premier League side, with the Daily Mail claiming the transfer fee is $5m (£3.5m).

Miazga finished the 2015 among the top six highest WhoScored rated players in MLS (7.49 rating) and one of the best defenders. In fact, only two players made more clearances than the youngster (209).
