Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign Xherdan Shaqiri and will step up their interest for the Stoke ace after the World Cup, claims The Daily Mirror.
Shaqiri will leave Stoke this summer after the Potters were relegated to the Championship last season.
The 26-year-old has a £12m release clause in his current Stoke deal and Liverpool have emerged as surprise suitors for the creative midfielder.
Shaqiri is currently focused on the World Cup with Switzerland and Liverpool will look to complete a deal after the tournament is over.
Liverpool’s deal for Nabil Fekir collapsed at the end of last week but Shaqiri is not an alternative to the Lyon captain.
Jurgen Klopp wants to add quality to his squad and believes Shaqiri is a low-risk addition due to his £12m release clause.
Shaqiri has given encouragement to Liverpool about a potential deal this summer, indicating he wants to move to Anfield.
Despite Stoke’s woes last season, Shaqiri played a direct hand in 15 goals in 36 league appearances (eight goals, seven assists).
