Two strikers earn perfect WhoScored 10s in La Liga Team of the Week

A sense of normality returned to La Liga this weekend, even if it had nothing to do with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, as Barcelona and Real Madrid returned to the top of the table. But who were the star performers in gameweek 9?

LUIS SUAREZ

The Uruguay international netted his second-ever Barcelona hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Eibar on Sunday to move his side back to the summit of La Liga. Suarez has been sharing the thankless task of filling the void left by Lionel Messi in recent weeks, but it was the 28-year-old that stepped up to the plate on this occasion, as he garnered a WhoScored.com rating of 10.

Suarez had the fewest touches of any player for Barcelona – including goalkeeper Claudio Bravo (43) - to complete the full 90 minutes (41), but the striker was lethal when in possession. Not only did no player complete more dribbles than Suarez (3), but the former Liverpool ace also scored three of his goals from just four shots on target. Additionally, only Sergio Busquets (3) completed more tackles than Suarez for Barcelona (2).

KEVIN GAMEIRO

The Sevilla striker had struggled to really hit any form of real note prior to the reception of Getafe this weekend. The France international hit his first hat-trick in four years and his first for Sevilla to also gain a WhoScored rating of 10 in a 5-0 drubbing of Getafe on Saturday.

Sevilla endured a summer of huge change of the summer as they brought in nearly a dozen new players and the effects have been clear to see in the early parts of the new campaign. Unai Emery’s side have struggled for any sort of consistency having won three, drawn three and lost three of their opening nine league matches. Their form has been personified in the performances of Gameiro, who has also failed to string a run of good displays together. However, at the weekend, Gameiro had six more shots on target that the entire Getafe team combined (6) in his 71-minute outing.
