West Ham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Michy Batshuayi after it emerged the Marseille striker would only leave L’OM for Champions League football, reports Eurosport.
The Hammers have made signing a top class striker their number one transfer target this summer and have already been linked with the likes of Christian Benteke, Wilfried Bony, as well as Batshuayi.
West Ham are currently facing competition from rivals Tottenham for the Belgian’s signature and could be forced to look for alternatives with the 22-year-old prioritising Champions League football if Marseille agree to sell him this summer.
Marseille have had a disastrous campaign and with the club up for sale they may be forced to sell stars like Batshuayi and Lass Diarra at the end of the season. The Ligue 1 giants will not have European football next season and Batshuayi’s availability would spark a frenzy of interest, not just from the Premier League.
The Marseille frontman has scored 15 goals and registered nine assists in 34 league appearances this season, which is his best return in a top-flight campaign.
