Arsenal make dramatic deadline day push for Thomas Partey

Arsenal have rekindled their interest in Thomas Partey and hope to complete a dramatic deadline day deal for the Atletico Madrid midfielder, claims Goal.

The Gunners were resigned to missing out on Partey this summer with Atletico unwilling to sanction his departure for anything less than his €50m (£45m) release clause.

Unable to offer anything more than €38m for Lyon's Hosseum Aouar at the end of last week, it seemed Arsenal would fail to land a central midfield Mikel Arteta was after.

However, it has sensationally now emerged Arsenal have contacted Partey's representatives and made it clear they intend on matching his release clause.

Previously confident of retaining Partey's services and even rewarding the midfielder with a new contract, Atletico will be shell-shocked by the news at this stage of the transfer window.

Arsenal are reportedly even putting plans in place for the Ghana international to complete his medical in Spain to save time on deadline day.

Partey has a dribble success rate better than any other player to have attempted at least 35 in LaLiga since 2019/20 (88.9%).
