England international to miss next month following horrific collision

Everton have confirmed via their official website that defender Michael Keane will be out of action for the next month following the head injury he sustained against Bournemouth.

The centre-back, who scored his first goal for the club and the Toffees second in a 2-2 draw on Saturday, clashed heads with teammate Idrissa Gueye late in the second half and was forced off on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.

The club have confirmed that the 25-year-old has suffered a hairline fracture of his skull but that there were no other complications in his treatment and he has since been released from Poole hospital on Sunday morning.

Everton stated that Keane “will be unable to engage in head contact for between three and four weeks, from which point he will be able to resume full training”.

The England international also said: “Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and support.
“I’m OK but suffered a small hairline fracture of the skull which will heal itself. I will be back with my team and back on the pitch as soon as I can after that.

“I also want to say a huge thank you to the medical staff at Everton and Bournemouth as well as all those at Poole hospital for their excellent treatment and care.”

Keane was awarded the WhoScored.com man of the match award for his efforts at the Vitality Stadium, earning a rating of 8.02 prior to his injury time collision.
