The Football Association have confirmed they have handed Arsene Wenger a four-game touchline ban after the Arsenal manager admitted a misconduct charge in their 2-1 win over Burnley last weekend.
Wenger was sent to the stands at the end of their dramatic win over Burnley on Sunday before being caught on camera using physical contact to push the fourth official during a heated exchange.
The Frenchman, who was also fined £25,000 for the incident, requested a personal hearing with an Independent Regulatory Commission in order to avoid being handed a complete stadium ban, which would have been a real blow to the side as they look to close down the current eight-point gap on league leaders Chelsea.
However, it still means that Wenger will not be on the sidelines for their FA Cup fourth round tie away to Southampton on Saturday evening, as well as league matches against Watford, Chelsea and Hull.
Not only will Wenger miss those matches, but so will Granit Xhaka, who was shown his second red card of the season in their controversial win over Burnley. The Switzerland international has now been shown more red cards than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues since the start of last season (5).
