Wilshere set for another spell on the sidelines

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will miss up to two months of the Premier League season after suffering a hairline fracture to his right ankle.

The England international sustained the injury in Arsenal’s last training session prior to their 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, but will not require surgery.

Wilshere only returned for Arsenal’s last six matches at the end of last season having missed the best part of five months due to an injured left ankle.

The 23-year-old’s career has been plagued by ankle problems and he is almost certainly going to miss England’s next two Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland at the start of September.

In fact, since the start of the 2012/13 campaign, Wilshere has only started in just over 40 per cent of Arsenal’s Premier League matches.
