Juventus in pole position to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Serie A giants Juventus have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, claims Spanish newspaper Marca.

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away from Madrid since the end of last season and Juventus are hopeful of prising the veteran away this summer.

The Portugal international’s relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez has soured in recent years due to alleged broken promises.

Ronaldo hasn’t signed a new Madrid deal since November 2016 and is no longer the best-paid player in the world.

The 33-year-old’s current release clause is a staggering €1bn but Ronaldo believes he will be able to leave for much less than that.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Ronaldo would be available for transfer for €120m (£106.1m) and Juventus are willing to match his wage demands. The Italian giants are reportedly prepared to offer Ronaldo €30m-a-year wages over four years.

Ronaldo is now free to focus on sorting his future following Portugal’s elimination from the 2018 World Cup on Saturday.

The Madrid No.7 scored four goals in as many games, after starting the tournament with a stunning hat-trick against rivals Spain. In fact, only Harry Kane (5) has netted more times in Russia thus far.
