Rangers seal swoop for Premier League pair

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers confirmed the double signing of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis on Sunday.

The former arrives on an 18-month loan deal, which will take him up to the end of his Bournemouth contract and reunites with former England teammate and Gers boss Steven Gerrard.

Davis, meanwhile, returns to the Glasgow outfit from Southampton, also arriving on a loan deal until the end of his current Saints deal that expires in the summer.

The 34-year-old spent four years at Ibrow between 2008 and 2012 and leaves St. Mary’s after over six years on the south coast, scoring 12 goals and registering 17 assists.

Davis has started just one Premier League match all season, while Defoe has made just four substitute appearances for the Cherries, with the 36-year-old aiming to end his career in style.

Rangers are currently level on points with rivals Celtic at the top of the Premiership following victory in the Old Firm derby ahead of the New Year.

Both players will join up with the squad on their mid-season training camp in Tenerife before a return to league action at high-flying Kilmarnock later this month.
