Inter wrap up deal for Atletico Madrid ace Godin

Inter have completed a deal to sign Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin on a free transfer at the end of the season, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Godin has entered the final six months of his existing Atletico deal and Diego Simeone’s side have failed to renew with the veteran defender.

The Uruguay international turned down Manchester United last summer and was expected to sign a bumper new Atletico deal.

However, the Spanish side could never agree terms with the 32-year-old and an official announcement from Inter is expected next month.

Godin underwent his medical with Inter in private last week and has agreed a two-year deal with the Serie A giants, with an option to another 12 months.

The Atletico ace is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and his departure is a blow to Simeone’s side.

However, the veteran has struggled for his best form this season and has been uncharacteristically error-prone.

Godin failed to make a single error leading to an opposition goal in 160 league appearances from August 2013 to May 2018 but has already committed two in La Liga this season.
