United man at centre of transfer tug of war

Barcelona and Real Madrid are keen on out of favour Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, reports the Sun on Sunday.

The France international has struggled to retain a regular starting spot at Old Trafford this season, making just five Premier League starts.

Martial moved to United from Monaco last summer for a fee that could rise to £57.6m depending on his performances.

And the Premier League side are now pondering whether to cash in on the youngster or rely on him to net the necessary goals to fire United back to the summit of England’s top tier.

Barcelona were keen on Martial prior to his move to United last year and could rekindle their interest in the Frenchman.

Real Madrid, though, could be leading the race to sign Martial, with Jose Mourinho keen on outcast James Rodriguez.

The Colombian has struggled for game time this term and has been linked with a move to United and Chelsea in January on loan.

A potential swap deal may be on the cards, though any transfer could be put on hold for the time being with Real Madrid in the midst of a transfer ban.
