Manchester United set for contract talks with Real Madrid target

Manchester United plan to open talks with David De Gea about a new long-term deal in a bid to put an end to continued interest from Real Madrid, reports The Independent.

De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid in two of the last three years and United expect that to continue for as long as the Spain international remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The 26-year-old has two years remaining on the deal he signed in the wake of his failed move to Madrid in 2015 and Jose Mourinho’s side want to avoid a situation where De Gea enters the final 12 months of his contract.

De Gea has made a superb start to the season, reaffirming his status as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, and there is reportedly a growing confidence that the Spaniard is even more content with life in Manchester.

Since the start of the season, De Gea has kept eight clean sheets in 10 matches for club and country. In fact, the United shotstopper has kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season (5).
