Didier Drogba’s agent has confirmed Chelsea have made an official approach for the club legend to return to Stamford Bridge, according to the London Evening Standard.
Chelsea’s fourth highest top goalscorer was pictured at Stamford Bridge alongside interim manager Guus Hiddink in Roman Abramovich’s box fuelling speculation he was on the verge of returning in some backroom capacity.
The 37-year-old’s agent, Thierno Seydi, has now revealed preliminary talks have taken place for Drogba’s return, although Chelsea would still have to free the Ivorian from the final year of his playing contract with MLS side Montreal Impact.
Drogba almost fired the Impact to MLS glory, despite playing just 14 matches towards the end of the 2015 season. Even though the veteran striker joined midway through the season, he still managed to net 12 times.
In fact, of players to score at least 10 goals in the MLS last season, no player required fewer minutes per goal than Drogba (97.5 mins).
