Lewandowski signs contract extension

Bayern Munich have announced Robert Lewandowksi has signed a new two-year contract extension keeping him at the Bundesliga giants until at least 2021.

Lewandowski’s previous deal was due to expire in 2019 and there had been doubts over the Poland international’s long-term future at the club having been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer.

The 28-year-old has developed into one of the most referred No.9s in European football since moving to Bayern from rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and has now agreed terms over the next five years.

“I am very pleased that the negotiations have led to a positive result and that I still remain a few years away from FC Bayern,” Lewandowski told the club’s official website. “Together we still have great goals.”

Despite Bayern’s early struggles in the transition period between Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, Lewandowski has still been immense in front of goal. In fact, only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (15) and Anthony Modeste (12) have scored more goals in the Bundesliga this season than Lewandowski (11).
