Bayern Munich technical director Michael Reschke has revealed the club wanted to replace Pep Guardiola with Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel at the end of last season.
Guardiola, 44, called time on his three years with Bayern this summer to become Manchester City’s new manager.
The Bundesliga giants then went on to announce former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti as Guardiola’s successor but the Spaniard wanted Tuchel to continue his work at the Allianz Arena.
“Thomas has to become my successor at Bayern,” Reschke said to 11 Freunde, via ESPN, that Guardiola had told him that shortly after his arrival.
“I had a trusting relationship with Thomas Tuchel, and knew that he admired Pep’s work. Pep on the other hand was impressed with Mainz’s displays. He often talked to me about Thomas.”
In his first season at the club last term, Dortmund finished with their highest points total (78) since they last won the Bundesliga in 2012 (81).
I had to register to point out how disgustingly misleading and inaccurate this ridiculous news article is. Pep wanted tuchel as his successor, all the bayern management wanted ancelotti, hence why they had him signed up the second it was clear pep was moving on. Do the worlda favour and stop writing crap.
