The French Football Federation have confirmed Raphael Varane will miss Euro 2016 after suffering a grade two tear to his left thigh.
Varane, 23, would have partnered Laurent Koscielny at the heart of Didier Deschamps’ defence at the Euros next month but the Real Madrid defender will not only miss the Champions League final on Saturday but now the Euros on home soil.
Deschamps has instead made the decision to replace Varane with Sevilla defender Adil Rami in the squad, and with Mamadou Sakho, Kurt Zouma and Aymeric Laporte already unavailable it means Eliaquim Mangala could be promoted into Varane’s absence.
Varane has enjoyed his most successful campaign for Madrid having started in more league games in his five-year career at the Spanish giants (23).
