Tottenham are readying to test the resolve of Borussia Dortmund to retain the services of Matthias Ginter with a £15m bid, reports the Independent.
Spurs are set to invest at the back this summer amidst reports that they will allow Kevin Wimmer to leave the club, which threatens to leave them short of centre-back options.
Ginter is open to a summer exit from Dortmund, but is keen to hold talks with newly-appointed head coach Peter Bosz before deciding his future.
However, Spurs face competition from Hoffenheim, who are looking into the possibility of signing the 23-year-old as they prepare to bring in a replacement for Bayern Munich-bound Niklas Sule.
Ginter made 26 league starts for Dortmund last season and can play at either centre-back or midfield, with his versatility part of the reason for Spurs’ interest.
Crucially, the World Cup winning defender is comfortable in a three-man defence, which Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino experimented with to great effect last season.
Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire as Pochettino looks to bolster his defensive ranks.
