Tottenham eye £50m bid for former Manchester United No.7

Tottenham are ready to hand Lyon winger Memphis Depay with a Premier League return in January, claims The Daily Mirror.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to cut loose some of the deadwood at Tottenham in the new year and bolster his options with fresh blood.

Memphis, who was a huge disappointment during his two years at Manchester United, has been earmarked as one of Tottenham's top transfer targets.

The 25-year-old has rediscovered his best form since swapping United for Lyon in 2017 and has also developed into a key player for the Netherlands under Ronald Koeman.

Capable of playing out wide and through the middle, Memphis would certainly solve a few problems for Tottenham on paper.

Finding a deputy for Harry Kane has proved almost impossible for Pochettino but Memphis would be able to step in when required as well as challenge for a starting spot on the flanks.

While Memphis has been a relative success for Lyon on the pitch, his time at the French club hasn't always been smooth sailing.

Memphis' extravagant off-pitch life-style hasn't gone without notice at Lyon and the former United No.7 has also angered the club in the past.

Memphis was involved in a war of words with former Lyon manager Bruno Genesio earlier this year and has previously revealed a desire to leave the club for one of the biggest in Europe.

The Lyon No.11 has scored seven goals in eight league appearances so far this season and averages a goal-per-game in the Champions League this term (four goals in four games).

Furthermore, only three players have a higher WhoScored rating than Memphis in Ligue 1 (7.67) and he is also among the top-10 WhoScored rated players in the Champions League (8.01).
