Mesut Ozil has reacted furiously to suggestions he has told teammates his Arsenal career is over and he will join Manchester United, claims The Sun.
Reports have emerged in the last few days suggesting a move to United to reunite with Jose Mourinho will either take place in January or at the end of the current campaign.
Ozil’s current Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the season but Arsenal would rather sell him in January to avoid losing the 28-year-old for nothing.
Arsene Wenger was hopeful of convincing the Germany international to pledge his long-term future to the Gunners, but has now accepted that this will be Ozil’s last season at the club.
However, the Arsenal No.11 is reportedly furious at suggestions he is demanding in excess of £300,000-a-week to sign a new deal and claims he has already made it clear he will join United.
It is also alleged that the last batch of contract talks between Ozil and Arsenal took place in March, which begs the question what Wenger’s side were doing over the summer when they made it clear he would not be leaving.
Despite the idea that the Gunners are better off without Ozil, Arsenal actually have a significantly worse win ratio in the Premier League without the German in the starting XI since the start of last season (30%) compared to when he has started (66.7%).
Interestingly, Wenger’s side also concede more goals per game (1.5) when he isn’t on the pitch compared to when he starts (1.08).
