Gareth Southgate has called Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs up to the England squad in the wake of Ryan Bertrand’s injury, reports Sky Sports.
Bertrand, 27, started in Southgate’s first game as England manager in their 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley on Saturday but was forced off after 20 minutes with a leg injury.
The Southampton full-back has returned back to his club for further treatment and Southgate has called upon Gibbs as cover for Tuesday’s match against Slovenia, in which Danny Rose will start.
Gibbs, 27, has only featured in 35 minutes of Premier League action this season and hasn’t featured for England since they beat France 2-0 in November 2015.
