The Football Association has announced they have handed Burnley midfielder Jack Cork his first England call up in the wake of injuries to key players for upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
Gareth Southgate has lost Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph to injury in a matter of days to take some of the gloss of two glamour friendlies.
The England manager has already called upon the services of West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore and Everton defender Michael Keane and has now turned to Cork in a bid to further bolster his midfield options.
Cork has made a fine start to life at Burnley after joining from Swansea over the summer and his performances have now been rewarded with international recognition.
The 28-year-old represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics but has never been capped higher at international level for England since his final match for the U21s in 2011.
In the Premier League this season, Cork has won possession in the middle third more times than any English player (47).
