Real Madrid striker set for new deal this summer

Real Madrid will offer Karim Benzema a 12-month extension in June to keep him at the club until 2022, according to AS.

Benzema, 29, still has four-and-a-half-years remaining on his existing deal but there have been constant doubts over his long-term future at Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is regularly linked with a move to the Spanish giants, while Sergio Aguero’s potential availability in the summer could also push Benzema closer to the exit door.

However, Madrid appear to be set to stick with their current No.9 and are prepared to end speculation about Benzema’s future by handing the striker a new contract extension.

Fitness problems have limited Benzema to just 12 league starts this season, while he has only netted five goals – he hasn’t failed to hit double figures in a league campaign since his maiden season in 2009 when he only managed eight goals.
