West Ham man made to wait for new deal

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has revealed Slaven Bilic has to prove he is not a one-season wonder in order to get a new contract.

The Hammers are on the brink of qualifying for the Champions League for next season in Bilic’s first season in charge of the club.

Bilic, 47, still has more than two years remaining on his current deal at West Ham but the east London outfit could struggle to keep hold of the former Croatia manager if he continues to succeed at the club.

However, West Ham will not be rushed into offering Bilic improved terms and will want until January 2017 before entering contract talks with the Croatian.

“I will give Slaven a new deal in January. I just want to see that he is not a one-season wonder. I’m sure he is not, but we will talk next January - or at the end of next season,” Sullivan told The Daily Mirror, via Sky Sports.

“I have to tell you that he is interested in the project, not money. He stayed at Croatia on £2,000-a-week for five years when he would have had bundles of offers. He is not really into money. He is more interested in getting the best players for the club than the best money for himself.”
