Chelsea and Manchester United scouted Borussia Dortmund defender

Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund ace Sokratis this summer after sending scouts to watch the defender in the club’s German Cup win over Frankfurt last month, reports BILD.

Sokratis, 29, has spent the last four years at Dortmund but has really emerged as their leading centre-back in the last 12 months in the wake of Mats Hummels return to Bayern Munich and now the Greece international is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Chelsea and United are both keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season and are now reportedly weighing up whether to step up their interest in Sokratis, who has two years remaining on his current Dortmund deal.

Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is poised to undergo his medical at United on Wednesday ahead of completing a £30.7m deal to Old Trafford but Jose Mourinho is reportedly still open to the idea of signing another centre-back with Marcos Rojo ruled out for most of the year with a knee injury.

Antonio Conte is also on the market for a new centre-back and the Premier League champions may turn their attentions to the Dortmund defender in the coming months if they fail to land Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci.

In the Bundesliga last season only Matthias Ginter (2456) and Julian Weigl (2403) had more touches of the ball for Dortmund than Sokratis (2279), illustrating his importance to the team under former manager Thomas Tuchel.
