Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he could follow in the footsteps of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in finishing his playing career in Major League Soccer.
The 29-year-old was clear to state his commitment to United and with four years left to run on his current deal, it isn’t a move that would appear to be in the near future.
However, the England captain did not rule out a move across the pond at the end of his current deal and revealed it is something he would speak about with his family if the chance presented itself.
"I’m obviously concentrating on Manchester United," Rooney told the Seattle Times.
"When that time comes, that’ll be something I’d think about. [I’ll] sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me."
Rooney is currently on course to become the leading goalscorer for both club (230) and country (48) and could even overtake Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record (260) before his career comes to a stop with the United forward looking to build on his 185 goal tally next season.
