Giroud open to Chelsea stay

Olivier Giroud is open to prolonging his stay at Chelsea despite wanting to leave in January, claims The Daily Mail

Giroud was desperate to secure a move away from Chelsea at the start of the month to boost his chances of going to Euro 2020 with France.

The 31-year-old was firmly out of favour at Chelsea for the first six months of the season but saw interest from Lazio, Inter and Tottenham turn to nothing.

Chelsea would have let Giroud leave in January had they got a replacement through the door but ended the winter transfer window without a single new addition.

Giroud already has an offer on the table to join Lazio at the end of the season when his current Chelsea deal expires but he is now open to a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Benefitting from Tammy Abraham's absence, Giroud has helped Chelsea end the club's poor run of form with successive wins over Liverpool and Everton.

Giroud has scored two goals in nine league games for Chelsea this season, with each goal coming in his last three outings in the competition.
