Tottenham sign PSV starlet Bergwijn

Tottenham have confirmed the arrival of versatile PSV Eindhoven forward Steven Bergwijn on a five-and-a-half-year deal running until the summer of 2025.

Bergwijn is the second signing made by Tottenham this month after Jose Mourinho's side agreed a deal worth as much as €32m (£27.1m) with PSV.

The 22-year-old arrived in London on Monday as talks continued between the two sides and underwent his medical with the north London outfit on Tuesday.

Mourinho has called on Tottenham to sign a player capable of playing through the middle since Harry Kane was ruled out for at least 12 weeks earlier this month.

Tottenham were linked with both AC Milan outcast Krzysztof Piatek and Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose.

However, Bergwijn's arrival would suggest Mourinho's side have ended their pursuit in the aforementioned duo.

The Netherlands international is capable of playing right across the front line and will bolster Tottenham's wide areas when Kane is back available.

Since the beginning of last season, only Ajax duo Dusan Tadic (63) and Hakim Ziyech (47) have scored or assisted more league goals than Bergwijn (41) in the Eredivisie.
