Paris Saint-Germain deny having to sell Neymar or Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain have released a statement refuting claims in French outlet L’Equipe they are willing to sell one of Neymar or Kylian Mbappe to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions.

UEFA are currently investigating PSG amid claims they have broken FFP and L’Equipe claimed on Friday the Ligue 1 giants are exploring their options in order to avoid any penalties.

PSG have made Neymar and Mbappe the two most expensive players of all-time in the last 12 months and there have been suggestions they will need to sell one in order to balance their books.

L’Equipe even claimed that was a real possibility at the end of the season but PSG have slammed those reports in a statement released on Friday.

“In an article published this Friday evening on its website, L’Equipe dares to say ‘PSG is ready to lose Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr to avoid [FFP] sanctions,” PSG’s statement read.

“Beyond denying this misinformation, ridiculous and only aimed to create once again a tough relationship between our club and media, PSG is wondering, once more, about the main goal of L’Equipe and its underlying thought about its editing work concerning PSG.

“There are so many examples of this kind of news aiming to bring a bad atmosphere around the club. Last one in date, last Wednesday, matchday against Strasbourg, with a frontage which pretended there was a ‘Cavani issue’.

“In passing, regarding the incredible amount of frongpages involving PSG in this daily newspaper, proof of the club’s fame, PSG is asking itself about the schizophrenic behaviour of L’Equipe and it’s hierarchy.”

Paris Saint-Germain deny having to sell Neymar or Mbappe

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for both PSG players as they look for Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term successor and will be at the front of the queue if Mbappe or Neymar are allowed to leave the French giants.

Neymar has played a direct hand in 16 goals in 12 league matches this season, while Mbappe is the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues along with Nantes striker Emiliano Sala (both 12 goals).

Furthermore, only Lionel Messi (8.50) has a higher WhoScored rating than Neymar (8.41) in Europe’s top five leagues, while Mbappe ranks third (7.96).
