Leeds quoted £5m to re-sign former captain

Leeds United want to re-sign Jonny Howson from Norwich this summer but have been told he will cost £5m, reports The Daily Mirror.

The Championship giants were reluctantly forced to sell Howson to Norwich in January 2012 as he entered the final six months of his contract but now the 29-year-old wants to return to Elland Road after rejecting a new deal at Norwich.

Howson still has two years remaining on his existing deal with the Canaries and Daniel Farke’s side are holding out for £5m for the former England U21 international.

Howson was made Leeds’ youngest captain since Billy Bremner at the age of 19 back in April 2009 and his reputation at the club is still good despite leaving for Norwich in 2012.

The Norwich No.8 has been a first-team regular ever since joining the club but Farke’s side are open to offers, as they want to use the money that would be generated from his departure to invest in new players.

Only Wes Hoolahan (43) and Cameron Jerome (52) have scored or assisted more goals in Norwich’s last three seasons than Howson (33).
