Manchester United midfield to miss match against CSKA Moscow

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been ruled out of their match against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday with an ankle injury, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Jose Mourinho was left incensed after Shane Long’s nasty challenge on Fellaini did not result in a red card during United’s 1-0 win away to Southampton on Saturday.

The Belgium international played through the pain at the weekend but was seen hobbling after the game and was not able to travel with the rest of the United squad to Russia on Monday.

With Paul Pogba sidelined for the foreseeable future, Mourinho is now going to be without one of his most trusted midfielders in Fellaini against CSKA Moscow and potentially at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Fellaini has completed a stunning turnaround at United and has almost transformed into a fan favourite under Mourinho, who has publically backed the Belgium international on more than one occasion.

The 29-year-old has become so important to United that Mourinho is now pushing for a new contract for the Belgian, who has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal.

Fellaini was named the WhoScored Man of the Match against Southampton at the weekend despite being injured for most of it. He also has two goals in his last four matches, including one in their Champions League group opener against FC Basel.
