Schalke offer key midfielder lucrative new offer

Schalke have offered star man Leon Goretzka a new deal in order to ward off interest from a host of teams across the continent, reports German publication Bild.

The Germany international’s current deal runs until 2018 and he is reluctant to extend his stay with the Bundesliga side, which has the vultures circling.

As things stand, Goretzka is free to negotiate a move away from the club from January 1st and Schalke are keen to avoid allowing the 22-year-old to depart on a free, if at all.

His situation in Germany is being monitored by the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid and a refusal to put pen to paper on a new contract could spark a scramble to secure his services.

The youngster has made seven league starts for Schalke this season, scoring three goals in the process, with his performances yielding a WhoScored rating of 7.23.

Goretzka, though, has been dribbled past more times (14) than any other player in the Bundesliga this season.
