Arsenal set to miss out on Suarez as talks with Barcelona collapse
Arsenal have been served a huge blow in their pursuit of Denis Suarez after talks with Barcelona collapse, claims Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Suarez since the turn of the year but Unai Emery’s side have no money to spend this month and can only afford loan signings.
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has even hinted Suarez can leave the club this month, with Arsenal the most likely destination.
Suarez was keen to reunite with Emery after striking a good relationship during their time at Sevilla but both are now set to miss out.
Barcelona ideally wanted to sell Suarez on a permanent deal this month but were willing to sanction a loan move to Arsenal if the Gunners agreed to a compulsory purchase at the end of the season.
However, Arsenal were unwilling to agree to those terms and Suarez now looks destined to stay at Barcelona for the remainder of the campaign, when his future will be assessed again.
There is still a chance Arsenal can resurrect talks with their Spanish counterparts but something will have to give in negotiations if Emery’s side are to get a deal over the line before the window shuts in just over a week.
The 25-year-old has not started a single game in any competition this season and has managed just 17 minutes of playing time across two La Liga appearances. He managed 31 league appearances under Emery during the 2014/15 campaign.
