Juventus’ move for Bayern Munich outcast on brink of collapse

Juventus’ proposed move for Bayern Munich outcast Douglas Costa could be called off due to rules in Italy that only permit two non-EU signings per season, reports BILD.

The Old Lady have been in talks with their German counterparts for several weeks to thrash out a deal for Costa, who is free to leave Bayern following the arrival of Serge Gnabry this summer.

However, Dani Alves’ surprise decision to walk away from Juventus has forced Max Allegri’s side to sign a new right-back and they are targeting a move for Real Madrid defender Danilo.

Having already signed Boca Juniors midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, Danilo would fill be the club’s second non-EU signing and mean a deal for Costa would collapse.

Bayern have slapped a €50m (£43.9m) price tag on Costa’s head and it was being reported that Juventus were close to making a significant breakthrough in discussions to land the 26-year-old.

Costa fell down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti last season despite enjoying a sublime maiden campaign at the club the year before. Even though he only started 14 league games last season, Costa has still completed at least 20 more dribbles than any other player in the Bundesliga over the past two campaigns (148).
