Newcastle are poised to make their sixth signing of the summer after agreeing a £5.5m deal with Blackburn for central defender Grant Hanley, reports Sky Sports.
Strengthening the heart of Newcastle’s defence has become a priority this summer after Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor both left the club at the end of last season.
Hanley, 24, has two years remaining on his current deal but is now free to discuss terms with Newcastle with a medical now also in the pipeline.
The Blackburn central defender completed more interceptions than any other player in the Championship last season (154).
