Spurs tracking Belgian striker

Spurs’ search for a new striker may have fallen on the shoulders of Genk striker Laurent Depoitre, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The north London outfit have reportedly been scouting Depoitre since March as they look to bolster their front line when the transfer window reopens in January.

Tottenham are likely to renew their interest in West Brom striker Saido Berahino, but Daniel Levy is also weighing up alternative options.

Depoitre, 26, earned his first senior call-up to Belgium’s forthcoming international fixtures against Andorra and Israel and his style of play has drawn likenesses to fellow Belgian Christian Benteke.

Former Gent goalkeeper Fred Herpoel confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Depoitre by saying: “Depoitre, I think he will soon leave Gent. I do not know if it will be for January, but in any case I think he will go to England at Tottenham. He has no offer, but I know that Tottenham are closely following him.”

The Gent striker has scored six goals in 10 league appearances so far this season and only Mbaye Leye of Zulte-Waregem and Oostende's Cyriac (both 32%) have scored a greater proportion of their side's total goals than Depoitre this term (30%).
