Arsenal and Liverpool given boost in Lemar pursuit

Thomas Lemar has turned down an offer of a bumper new Monaco contract in order to secure a Premier League move in the summer, claims French outlet L’Equipe, via The Daily Mail.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been chasing Lemar’s signature since the end of last season but Monaco have so far been successful in resisting their attempts to prise the winger to England.

Lemar turned down the chance to join Arsenal last summer, as it is believed the France international would rather play for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and they have been given a boost in their pursuit of his signature.

Monaco are understandably keen to retain the services of one of their best players but the 22-year-old has rejected their offer of a new long-term deal, indicating he would like to leave at the end of the season.

Barcelona have also been linked with a move for the Monaco ace in recent times but it remains to be seen whether he is still a target after they signed Philippe Coutinho for a club-record fee last month.

Since the start of last season, only Florian Thauvin (18), Kylian Mbappe and Morgan Sanson (both 16) have registered more assists than Lemar (15) in Ligue 1.
