West Ham reject second bid from Marseille for Dimitri Payet

West Ham have turned down an improved offer from Marseille for wantaway star Dimitri Payet, reports the Press Association.

Payet, who turns 30 in March, has told West Ham he wants to leave the club during the January transfer window and will not be considered for first-team duty until his future is resolved.

Marseille have reportedly agreed personal terms with Payet, whom they only sold to West Ham at the start of last season in a deal worth £10m, and now only need to agree a fee with the Premier League outfit to complete a deal.

However, the Hammers, who ideally would like Payet to apologise to their fans before returning to first-team action, are understood to have rejected a second offer from the Ligue 1 outfit and will continue to demand £35m until the transfer window closes.

The France international enjoyed a stunning debut campaign for West Ham this season but it hasn’t been easy going for Slaven Bilic’s side this season. Payet was dropped from the squad that beat Crystal Palace 4-0 at the weekend to move nine points clear of the bottom three.

Despite their struggle this season, no player has created more chances in Europe’s top five leagues than Payet (74).
