Crystal Palace have bid £16m for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Frank de Boer is keen to bolster his defensive options this summer and the club are now looking at alternatives to Mamadou Sakho after being priced out of a move for the Liverpool defender.
The 27-year-old flourished on loan with Palace last season but Liverpool are now demanding £30m for the Frenchman and De Boer’s side are now looking to wrap up a deal for Chambers.
The England U21 international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough but doesn’t appear to have a long-term future at Arsenal after being usurped in the pecking order by Rob Holding.
Palace completed a £8m deal for Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald on Monday but De Boer wants more defenders with the futures of Scott Dann and Damien Delaney uncertain.
Chambers made 24 appearances for Middlesbrough last season and was a relative success for the Riverside outfit despite their relegation back down to the Championship. In fact, only six players averaged more clearances per game than Chambers (7.3) in England’s top flight last term.
