Chelsea have identified Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez as one of their main transfer targets before the window shuts, according to German newspaper Blick, via Get German Football.
Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club for the past few years and he did have a €25m (£21.5m) release clause earlier this summer, although that has now expired.
Antonio Conte has obviously not seen enough in Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back to want to continue with the Spaniard in that position and will move for Cologne defender Jonas Hector if a deal for Rodriguez cannot be struck, although the German has just extended his deal.
Since the start of August 2013 no defender has created more chances from set pieces than Rodriguez (84).
