Algeria star rejected United

Montpellier forward Ryad Boudebouz has revealed he rejected an offer from Manchester United when he was 18.

The Algeria international has been one of Ligue 1’s best players in recent years but it could have been so different for the forward had he accepted a four-year contract that United offered in 2008.

“I was in negotiations with Sochaux and my father received a call from a Manchester United representative,” Boudebouz told L’Equipe du Soir, via TalkSPORT.

“We did not believe it was him until the day when he came to our house with a four-year professional contract and lots of money.

“At the time, it was already a lot for us. We had the foresight not to leave too early.”

In the last three Ligue 1 campaigns Boudebouz has completed at least 35 more key passes than any other player (184).
