Juventus’ director general Beppe Marotta has confirmed there is a verbal agreement with Chelsea to make Juan Cuadrado’s stay in Turin permanent.
Cuadrado, 27, joined the Serie A champions on a season-long loan deal at the start of the season and it was suggested Max Allegri’s side had the option to make the switch permanent.
The Colombia international made a bright start to life back in Italy but a change in system has seen Cuadrado spend more time on the substitutes’ bench of late, which had led to suggestions Juventus wouldn’t look to sign him at the end of the season.
However, Marotta has now confirmed the versatile wideman still features in their long-term plans and hinted they would still act on their verbal agreement with Chelsea.
“He is on loan. In tactical terms he is very different to other players, so it’s only normal he suits us,” Marotta told Rai Sport.
“There is a verbal agreement for an option to buy from Chelsea, so we’ll see what happens.
“We are happy with what he’s doing both on and off the field, so certainly he is someone we’ll try to keep in Turin next season too.”
The former Fiorentina winger has only started nine league games this season and hasn’t completed 90 minutes in the league since midway through December, which was the last game he scored and registered an assist.
Additionally, of players to have featured in at least 15 league games this season, only two players have required fewer minutes per successful dribble than Cuadrado in Serie A (24.7 mins)
