Manchester City eye new left-back in January sales

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is eyeing up a move for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand in January as cover for the injured Benjamin Mendy, reports the Sun.

Mendy sustained a knee injury in City’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace last month with the Frenchman ruled out for six months.

Fabian Delph has covered for the former Monaco man sufficiently, while Danilo is an option for Guardiola in the position, but the City boss is looking to bring in a new left-back to ease the burden on his side.

And the Spaniard has his eye on a move for Bertrand, who was linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium over the summer.

The 28-year-old is contracted to Southampton until 2021, but City will look to test Saints' resolve with a £30m bid in the New Year.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for their player, with Blues boss Antonio Conte looking to add competition to his starting spots at left wing-back having missed out on Alex Sandro over the summer.
